So Many Choices! (Day 3)

Choice - noun
an act of selecting or making a decision when faced with two or more possibilities : the choice between good and evil.

These days losing weight is big business. There are many programs out there and all of them promise the same thing; "lose the weight fast!". Many celebrities endorse these various programs and encourage you that the one their talking about is the best. Of course they are, being in the film business myself I know that all they are doing is reading what the ad agency wants them to say and in return they get a nice check. So without trying all of these things how do you know which one works? Well, since i've decided to lose weight I looked into the options.

First thing I thought about doing was going on the "Atkins" diet. I had tried this years ago and lost weight doing it. It's a low carb, high protein diet and for many, being able to eat all the meat and cheese you want sounds appealing. But I just didn't like the way it made me feel. And when i recall all of the people I know who have done it; they have either stopped doing it and/or gained the weight back. So I scratch "Atkins" off my list.

Next was a plan I have been seeing on TV a lot "NutriSystem". With this you pick the plan you want and they ship you all the food your allowed to have for the month. All of the food is portioned out to healthy serving sizes. I liked the idea of having a plan that was already portioned out but when thinking about my job; it just didn't seem like something that would work well for me. Being on set a lot and not having access to a microwave, felt like hard obstacles to overcome. This along with the price of the plan just seemed like enough to scratch this one off the list.

Last is a plan that has been around for awhile "Weight Watchers". This is a monthly plan that allows you to attend meetings and have access to lots of healthy eating content on their website. There plan uses their very own point system and those points represent your allowed food for the day. This to me seems like the best choice. I like the idea of the meetings and talking with other's who are fighting obesity. This seems to be a more therapeutic approach, but again I think about my work schedule and how those meeting would be hard to go too and although not as pricey as other plans; still a monthly cost attached. So I scratched it off the list. Now what?

Well I thought about it for awhile and I looked around at my computer desk and it was then I decided to take a more tech approach to losing weight. So that's when I decided to write this Blog; to give me an outlet on my feelings and help keep me on a positive track about what I am trying too do. I then looked at my iPhone and searched the app store for anything that could help me. In moments I found an app called "Lose It". This app allows you to enter in your weight, age, and height, along with your goal weight. It then calculates based on how ever much your wanting to lose. When its done it shows you your allowed calorie intake for the day and how long, if you meet this amount it will take you to reach your goal. My goal weight is 210 and according to the app I should reach that by June 10, 2010. When it finishes this calculation you can start logging in the food you eat to keep track of your calories and contained in its database is most of the foods we eat, including restaurants. So I've found this tool to be really helpful. And for a more community outlet there is the "Men's Health" website. Here you can find great recipes and exercise routines. There are also forums that allow you to talk to others who are trying to lose weight and live a healthier lifestyle.

So thats the plan I'm going to stick with for me and over the course of the next few months I'll see how it goes.
